Many new eBooks have been added to the Virtual Reference Library this morning.  Particularly nice eBooks include the Encyclopedia of Philosophy, Epics for Students, and Successful Interview Skills.  Many titles from thepopular Opposing Viewpoints series (Student Drug Testing, The Music Industry, Cyberbullying, and Globalization, etc.) are also now available.  See the full list on the New Items List of the library catalog.  Access the eBooks both from the catalog and from our Gale Virtual Reference Library.  Don't forget your passwords sheet!
 
New York State announced 1.65 million teens and children participated in summer reading programs during the summer of 2011. The Deputy Commissioner of Cultural Education and Acting State Librarian said it's a 10% increase from 2010. The Poughkeepsie Library District has announced Thornton Wilder will be this year's Big Read author.  Big Read events are scheduled from October 16th through November 13th.  A complete list of activities and a program description is at http://www.poklib.org/BigRead.htm.
 
More than 50 new eBooks containing literary criticism have been added to JJHS bringing the grand total of literary eBooks to over 900.  Not only do the new titles include information on novels but for nonfiction, poetry, drama, and more.  The new books are available through the library catalog or by using the Literature eBooks widget on the Research Tools page of the library site.  To easily see a complete list, look on the New Items page in the catalog.
 
Not sure about a book or looking for a good one?  Read reviews by JJHS students!  Click anywhere on the library site where you see "Catalog" and scroll down to the bottom of the page.  There you'll see the latest 5-6 books to have been reviewed.  Click on anywhere you see "Reader Review" to see all the reviews written... so far.  Write your own review when you've finished a book!  Instructions are on the Book Reviews page of the library site.
